Which technology jobs pay the most? As you might expect, C-suite executives such as CTOs tend to pull down the biggest paychecks. However, technologists in fields as diverse as data, DevOps, the cloud, and cybersecurity earned sizable compensation, according to the latest Dice Tech Salary Report.

As you can see from the following list of six-figure technology jobs, outside of the C-suite, the highest-paid roles in tech tend to have “architect,” “engineer,” or “manager” in their title. And that certainly makes sense, as these technologists are responsible for building out and maintaining the tech stacks and platforms that allow companies to keep running—and they must often do so at considerable scale. Analysts also pull down quite a bit, as they must provide stakeholders with the information they need to make mission-critical decisions.

Overall, average technologist salaries in the U.S. increased 3.6 percent between 2019 and 2020, reaching $97,859. Of course, pay is highly dependent on your skills, experience, certifications, and where you live (some up-and-coming tech hubs, such as Charlotte and Houston, saw significant year-over-year increases in average technologist salary).

No matter what your role, there are also numerous ways to boost your salary, including merit increases, changing employers (and negotiating for a better pay package as you do so), internal promotions, or fostering new skills. For example, a data architect (average salary: $133,064) can learn all the latest tools and techniques for designing, deploying and maintaining data architecture, making them even more highly specialized and valuable.
