Cloud architecture is the fastest-growing learning topic among U.S. customers of learning platform Udemy, according to its latest research. What's behind this widespread desire to become a cloud architect?
Specifically, participation in cloud-architecture classes jumped 285 percent between the fourth quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022. Around the world, Udemy’s “surging” tech skills include DApp (up 600 percent), Binance (up 450 percent), Openstack Cloud (up 444 percent), FastAPI (up 304 percent), and Microsoft MB-300 (up 300 percent).
Perhaps it’s no surprise that so many people are focused on cloud architecture at the moment. Organizations everywhere are busy building out their cloud infrastructure, which has sparked a cloud skills shortage. Across the country, hiring managers and recruiters are scrambling to find technologists who’ve mastered cloud-based security, infrastructure, and DevOps. Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud are also a must, as many organizations have standardized on these sprawling platforms.
For those who learn those diverse skills, cloud architects are well-compensated: According to Emsi Burning Glass, which collects and analyzes millions of job postings from across the country, the median annual salary for a cloud architect is $131,513.
