On August 27, HackerEarth will kick off its /hack hackathon in San Francisco, CA. Co-sponsored by Dice, /hack will feature 300 hackers of all skill levels competing to complete a project over a 24-hour period. Register here for the chance to participate; the deadline is August 5.
Vishy Poosala, engineering director at Facebook, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. Poosala leads the team responsible for shipping Messenger to more than a billion monthly active users. Before Facebook, he served as Head of Bell Labs in India, and founded location-app startup Geopepper.
Teams will include 1-4 members, and must have submitted their project idea before the event. (While teams will be hard at work throughout the night, HackerEarth is also designating a sleep space, so participants should bring a sleeping bag in addition to their laptops and chargers.)
Hackathon prizes include $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second, and $1,500 for third. Fourth- and fifth-place prizes are Estimote Dev Kits. HackerEarth is also giving away a Myo Gesture Control Armband to one lucky participant, and every attendee will receive a swag bag. Judges include senior engineers from top tech firms, startups, and VCs.
