Video game development is taking root in Massachusetts.  More than 60 tech jobs are open at video game companies there, according to the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council (33 of them are on Dice). Overall, game companies directly employ more than 1,200 people in the state, placing it fifth behind California, Texas, Washington and New York. Video game companies in Massachusetts include Turbine, which produced Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons; Irrational Games, creator of the popular Bioshock; Harmonix, the producer of Rock Band; and Conduit Labs, recently bought by social gaming giant Zynga. Massachusetts lawmakers are hoping to accelerate the growth of video game companies by providing tax credits and revising contracting laws to make it easier for freelancers to work there. Ultimately, they hope to see the local industry grow from $2 billion to $20 billion in five years.
