There’s been quite a bit of buzz over the past year about generative artificial intelligence (A.I.), especially in the context of chatbots like ChatGPT. Tech professionals are experimenting with this new technology and, in many cases, figuring out how to integrate it into their respective companies’ tech stacks.
But which generative A.I. skills and tools are most in demand? The answer can help tech professionals adjust their training and potentially land more job interviews. According to Upwork’s latest analysis of the generative A.I. market, the top 10 generative A.I.-related job searches from companies included, in descending order:
- ChatGPT
- BERT
- Stable Diffusion
- TensorFlow
- A.I. Chatbot
- Generative A.I.
- Image Processing
- PyTorch
- Natural Language Processing (NLP)
- Bard
This analysis took place between January and June 2023. “OpenAI continues to see a first-mover advantage with ChatGPT, including its underlying models GPT-3 and GPT-4, at the top of the list of generative AI-related search terms from those looking to hire, followed by BERT and Stable Diffusion,” Upwork added in a note accompanying the data.
“Many of the skills with the largest quarter-over-quarter growth in searches indicate a shift from singular generative AI tools toward generative AI applications and services, including A.I. content creation, Azure OpenAI, and prompt engineering,” the note continued.
For tech professionals everywhere, gaining baseline knowledge of generative A.I. seems increasingly essential. From there, it’ll only pay to master tools and frameworks such as ChatGPT, TensorFlow, and PyTorch. It’s a good get that A.I. will fundamentally change many tech jobs in the years to come; after all, it’s already having a sizable impact on software development.
While the number of A.I.-related jobs is still relatively small and concentrated in a few key areas, expect mentions of the technology to proliferate in job postings. Companies everywhere want tech specialists who can make apps, services, and backend infrastructure “smarter” through the use of machine learning and A.I.
